PELLET

Pellets are small cylindrical or prismatic compressed fuel particles, usually obtained from biomass. They are popular as a clean, sustainable energy source and are often used in heating systems. Here is more information about pellets:

1. What is a Pellet?

  • Material Source: Pellets are usually made from organic materials such as sawdust, wood chips, olive pits, sunflower husks, corn cobs, agricultural waste.

  • Size and Shape: Its diameter is usually 6-12 mm and its length is 10-30 mm.

  • Density: It has a high density, which ensures high energy efficiency during combustion.

2. Pellet Production Process

  • Raw Material Preparation: Wood or agricultural waste is first dried and ground into fine particles.

  • Compression: It is pressed under high pressure and temperature to form pellets. No binder is used; the natural lignin of the raw material acts as a binder.

  • Cooling and Packaging: After production, the cooled pellets are packed into sacks or bulk transport containers.

3. Advantages of Pellets

  • Environmentally Friendly: It emits less carbon than fossil fuels.

  • Efficiency: Provides high heating value.

  • Easy Storage: Its compact structure ensures that it takes up little space.

  • Automatic Use: Modern pellet stoves and boilers are equipped with automatic feeding and control systems.

4. Areas of Use

  • Domestic Heating: Pellet stoves and boilers.

  • Industrial Applications: Factory heating systems and steam generation.

  • Electricity Production: Pellet-fueled power plants.

5. Types of Pellets

  • Wood Pellet: The most commonly used type, made from hard and softwoods.

  • Agricultural Pellet: Produced from agricultural waste such as olive pits and sunflower husks.

  • Industrial Pellet: Made from lower quality raw materials, generally used in large power plants.

6. Disadvantages of Pellets

  • Initial Investment Cost: Pellet stoves and boilers are more expensive than traditional systems.

  • Raw Material Access: Finding quality pellets can be difficult in some areas.

  • Maintenance Requirement: Pellet stoves require regular cleaning and maintenance.

7. Standards Related to Pellets

  • Quality pellets must meet international standards (e.g. ENplus , DINplus certifications). These certifications guarantee the energy efficiency and environmental sustainability of the pellet.

Pellets are an innovative and environmentally friendly type of fuel that plays an important role in the transition to sustainable energy solutions.
